With a 10 kg allowance, a 3.5 kg hard-shell suitcase only leaves you 6.5 kg for your belongings, whereas a 2.2 kg model frees up 7.8 kg. Each passenger can check in up to 50 kg of total luggage, spread over a maximum of five suitcases. What this means in practice

You can bring a very large suitcase without fear of being rejected at the sizing stand, as long as the scale stays within limits. This freedom does not extend to special luggage, such as bicycles or musical instruments, which follow their own terms and conditions and must be declared separately. Volotea publishes its baggage rates, and the gap between purchasing online and at the airport is spectacular. The exact price varies according to the country of origin, the destination, and the season, but the starting prices are published.

The 1-to-5 ratio between the website and the airport

The figure to remember is this: 20 kg of luggage costs from 14 euros on the website, and from 75 euros if you add it at check-in. That is more than five times the price for exactly the same luggage in the same hold. For a round trip for two, the oversight costs more than 240 euros.
