Vueling Cabin Baggage: Dimensions, Weight, and Regulations 2026
With Vueling, cabin baggage rules vary according to your fare: a small bag is free for everyone (ideal for your handbags or slim Eastpak backpacks), while a large cabin suitcase (55 × 40 × 20 cm) is only included with the Optima fare and higher categories. Knowing this information before arriving at the airport avoids a €50 surcharge applied by Vueling Airlines at boarding.
A Vueling 55x40x20 cabin suitcase complies with this size limit without any surcharge at boarding.
Below you will find a complete summary of the dimensions, weights, and fares in effect for Vueling cabin baggage in 2026.
| Baggage type | Max dimensions | Max weight | Included in |
|---|---|---|---|
| Personal item (handbag) | 35 × 20 × 20 cm | Not limited | All fares |
| Small cabin bag (under-seat) | 40 × 30 × 20 cm | Not limited | All fares |
| Large cabin suitcase (overhead locker) | 55 × 40 × 20 cm | 10 kg | Optima, FamilyPlus, Time&Flex |
Vueling Cabin Baggage Dimensions
Vueling distinguishes between three types of cabin baggage, each with its own permitted dimensions.
The large cabin suitcase — cabin case, trolley, or hard-shell model — is placed in the overhead compartment above your seat and must not exceed 55 × 40 × 20 cm for a maximum weight of 10 kg. These dimensions include wheels and handles: your fully packed luggage must fit within this size limit.
The small cabin bag (40 × 30 × 20 cm) is placed under the seat in front of you. It is free for all passengers, regardless of the chosen fare. It is ideal for carrying a laptop and its accessories.
You may also carry one personal item (handbag, slim backpack, messenger bag) of up to 35 × 20 × 20 cm. This item is also placed under the seat and is included for free in all fares.
Permitted Weight for Vueling Cabin Baggage
The maximum weight for the large Vueling cabin suitcase is 10 kg (including the suitcase). There is no official weight limit for the small cabin bag (40 × 30 × 20 cm) or the personal item, but they must remain reasonably portable. If you are traveling with a child under 2 years old, an additional 5 kg bag is allowed.
To maximize your useful space, choose a lightweight cabin suitcase (ideally less than 3 kg): the permitted 10 kg includes the weight of the suitcase itself. A 4 kg suitcase leaves you with only 6 kg for your belongings.
Free or Paid Vueling Cabin Baggage?
It all depends on your fare. Vueling offers four ticket types that do not include the same baggage allowances.
| Fare | Personal item | Small cabin bag | Large cabin suitcase | Checked baggage |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Basic | Included | Included | Paid | Paid |
| Optima | Included | Included | Included | 1 x 25 kg bag included |
| FamilyPlus | Included | Included | Included | 1 x 25 kg bag included |
| Time&Flex | Included | Included | Included | 1 x 25 kg bag included |
With the Basic fare, if you wish to bring a large cabin suitcase (55 × 40 × 20 cm), you must purchase it as an add-on during booking — which is always cheaper than at the airport.
Tip: if your luggage is refused at boarding because it is too large or too heavy, Vueling applies a €50 on-site surcharge and puts your suitcase in the hold.
What You Can (and Cannot) Take on a Vueling Flight
Liquids in the cabin
As on all European flights, liquids are allowed in the cabin provided they follow the 100 ml rule: each container must not exceed 100 ml and everything must fit into one transparent, resealable one-liter plastic bag (one bag per passenger). Liquids purchased duty-free after security are exempt, provided they are in a sealed bag with your receipt.
Prohibited items
The following are strictly prohibited in Vueling cabin baggage: knives, scissors with long blades (over 6 cm), firearms, compressed gases, flammable liquids, and lithium batteries over 100 Wh. Electronic devices (laptops, cameras) must be removed from your baggage during security screening.
Vueling Checked Baggage: Prices and Options
If your fare does not include checked baggage, you can add it during your booking. The rates below are indicative and may vary depending on the destination and date.
| Weight | Online price (from) | Airport price |
|---|---|---|
| 15 kg | €8 | €50 |
| 20 kg | €10 | €50 | 25 kg | €15 | €50 |
| 30 kg | €25 | €50 |
If you exceed the chosen weight at the airport, a surcharge of €12 per kg is applied, up to a maximum of 32 kg per bag per journey. Always book your checked baggage online to avoid the airport surcharge.
Which Suitcase Should You Choose for a Vueling Flight?
To travel with Vueling without any nasty surprises, your cabin suitcase must strictly stay within the 55 × 40 × 20 cm limit, including wheels and handles. Opt for a hard-shell suitcase: its fixed shape ensures compliance with dimensions even when packed, unlike soft-sided suitcases which can deform.
To maximize the permitted 10 kg, choose a suitcase that is light when empty. At GYL, our hard-shell suitcase collection offers models with optimized cabin dimensions and includes a global warranty — ideal for regular flyers.
